Wedge gate valve is a multi-turn and bidirectional valve, and the closure member is a wedge.
When the stem rising up, the wedge will left from the seat which means opening, and when the stem going down, the wedge will tightly closed to the seat facing makes it closing. When fully open, fluid flows through the valve in a straight line, resulting in minimum pressure drop across the valve. Gate valves are used as on-off valves, not suitable as capicity control applications.
Compared with ball valves, gate valves are with less cost, and more widely applications. Normally ball valves are with soft seat, so it’s not suggested to be used in high temperate applicaitons, but gate valves are with metal seat and is a good choice to be used in such high temperate situation. Also, gate valves can be used for critical applicalications when the mudium have solid particles such as mining. Gate valves are widely used for oil & gas, petrolumn, refining, chemical, mining, water treatment, power plant, LNG, etc.
